Being an Employee: Finding a Job

Entering the job market and finding a job for the first time can feel like swimming in the deep end without a life jacket. You may be wondering, “Where do I even begin?” That alone is overwhelming!

Then when you find some jobs you are interested in, they are asking for a resume and cover letter. You may be thinking, “I have heard of these, but how do I write a successful resume and cover letter?”

Lastly, you hear back from the job. They would like you to come in for an interview. You may be thinking, “How do I prepare for this?”

If you feel overwhelmed by this process, that’s okay! It is a lot, especially if you were never taught how to do this! Learning how to search for a job, prepare for interviews, write a resume and cover letters, and how to network will all help you feel confident about setting out in uncharted waters.

Take a few minutes and think about what jobs you are looking for. Write them down. Getting very clear about what you are looking for so that you can find it1

Knowing what you are looking for really helps manage the stress you may feel doing this process.

Consider these things when finding a job:

  1. Salary
  2. Benefits
  3. Company culture
  4. Location
  5. Schedule
  6. Other- based on your specific career path. 

Finding a job is something that is stressful for so many people. Talking to others is a great way to not just give and receive tips, but to network as well! You never know who you may be talking to. 🙂
